ABSTRACT
In this article we report recent sightings of Semipalmated Sandpiper (Calidris pusilla) and Western Sandpiper (Calidris mauri) from central Chile. No confirmed records of Semipalmated Sandpiper have been published south of 21°S, and the Western Sandpiper was until recently considered as hypotetical in Chile. With these new sightings, we show that the Semipalmated Sandpiper is a rare but regular visitor to central Chile, while the Western Sandpiper is a vagrant species occasionally reaching central Chile. The sightings of both species will probably increase in the future with the growth of birdwatching activity in Chile.
