ABSTRACT
We present data on both breeding and non-breeding seabird species from Desventuradas
Islands: San Félix (25ºS; 80ºW) and San Ambrosio (26ºS; 70ºW), two oceanic
islands located 850 km off northern Chile. During 3 short visits in 2001 (June and December)
and 2003 (March) we recorded a total of 10 breeding seabird (two petrels, one stormpetrel,
two boobies, two tropicbirds, and three terns) and one terrestrial species (a Kestrel).
We confirm for the first time for these islands and the Chilean territory breeding of the
White-tailed Tropicbird (Phaeton lepturus) and the Blue-footed Booby (Sula nebouxii). A
third species, the Red-tailed Tropicbird (Phaeton rubricauda) is reported for the first time
as breeder for Desventuradas.
